Wow! "Big Magic" and yet no magic at all. What an inspiring, heartfelt, honest, comprehensive, helpful read. As a first time published author I can relate, appreciate and thank Elizabeth Gilbert for speaking so candidly about the art of creativity. The creation encompasses infinite possibilities whether it be writing, gardening, drawing, skating, sports, etc. It basically includes anything one is truly curious about and willing to pursue because it is fun.Elizabeth Gilbert shares that if one truly loves what she/he is doing "failure and success become irrelevant". Very liberating to read that. Outcome is not the ultimate worth. It is the doing, the process that has value. The value is always worthy to the doer. Loving what you are doing, having fun doing it and bringing it to completion is reward in itself.Main message for me is to keep on creating, doing what I love and trust yourself. There will always be roadblocks and fear. Find another way. Be brave and keep on creating. A wonderful read that takes you simply and courageously into the gift of our confidence and creativity--that place that is filled with power, meaning, energy, clarity and delight. The idea that we would live to be filled with regret versus living a life we choose.The book exposes us to something we innately know--the power of inspiration and how the universe is abundant and supportive--if we get out of the way.
This book was perfect for getting me motivated to continue my journey in writing. The only part I didn’t like was the section devoted to how college education was not valuable in the creative life. I am currently working on my BA in Creative Writing and I am learning so much - including writing to specifications and deadlines. The editing (grading) of my writing helps tremendously with my confidence.This is a great book and I recommend it to anyone who is pursuing a calling in arts.

I read the book twice within three weeks. It was so very healing and enjoyable to hear E. Gilbert’s view about what creativity means to her. Must read!!!
